$240,000 Fine : Stay of proceedings decreed on appeal

While represented by another law firm, our client was charged and found guilty by default for possession of unstamped tobacco, resulting in fines of over $200,000. Me Maxime Raymond represented the interests of the Quebec Association of Lawyers and Defense Lawyers (Aqaad) before the Supreme Court of Canada in the Sharma case. This case dealt with the availability of conditional sentencing (house imprisonment) for certain criminal offenses and the constitutionality of certain provisions of the criminal code.
